The purpose of the roadworthiness test is to check the reliability of your car by checking 124 precise points. The examination of the vehicle takes less than one hour and is carried out using measuring devices or by visual inspection (no need to dismantle the car) Of the 124 points, 72 are subject to a counter-checking obligation if there was a defect during the first inspection. In France, more than 20% of the vehicles inspected must be presented for a counter-visit after repair, so here are some tips for passing this examination the first time

The braking process

Most control points in this category require a counter-visit in the event of a defect. You can easily check the brake fluid level. It must be between the mini and the maxi. If it is below the minimum, it means that the brake linings are worn and I advise you in this case to do what is necessary (change discs, pads for example) before the roadworthiness test.

Lighting, signalling

All lights and indicators must operate properly. Feel free to ask someone to help you to verify that this is the case.

Ground connections

Checking the condition of the shock absorbers and the suspension system in general is reserved for experts, but you can already simply check the pressure and condition of your tires. In my guide "5 checkpoints for safe driving" (available at the bottom of the article) I explain in detail how to do it;) You can also check that the exhaust pot is securely attached and not drilled.

Vehicle identification

The poor condition of the front and/or rear registration plates is subject to counter-visit. So make sure they are well set and up to standard.

Pollution, noise level

Measuring the CO content of exhaust gases, its opacity and engine noise requires specific equipment that only professionals possess. However, you can make sure that the exhaust fumes from your car are not too large and white or black in colour.

Equipment

Before the appointment, you can check the condition of the seats, the operation of the seat belts and the horn. You can also check the condition of the battery terminals, which must be clean and un-oxidized.

The structure, the bodywork

Doors, hood, trunk should open and close without difficulty. The bodywork must have a good general appearance without significant corrosion.

The visibility

The windshield must not have a crack or fracture larger than 30cm in diameter. Your interior and exterior mirrors must be secure and in good condition. Also remember to check the wear of your wiper blades and the presence of windshield washer fluid.
